Frequently Asked Questions

Answers before you apply

Common questions about our programs, who is eligible, how the process runs, and where our work stops. Don't see yours? Contact us.

What exactly does CFGS do?
We are an educational charity. We teach organizations how to become funder-ready, through workshops, funding-literacy clinics, and proposal and compliance education. For organizations accepted into the program, our team also helps build the grant package itself, and it gets reviewed by our finance and compliance staff before you ever see it.
Is CFGS a 501(c)(3) organization?
Yes. Community Funding & Grant Solutions, Inc. is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. CFGS remains a Tennessee nonprofit corporation organized for charitable and educational purposes.
Do you guarantee that we'll receive funding?
No. No one can honestly guarantee a grant award, and we never will. We help you become more competitive and prepared, but funding decisions rest entirely with funders.
Will you submit grant applications for us?
No. We prepare submission-ready packages and give you a customized submission guide, but you review, approve, and submit. Final delivery does not mean CFGS has submitted anything on your behalf.
Who is eligible for the program?
We focus on under-resourced, mission-driven organizations with no grant staff: nonprofits, public agencies, faith-based groups, and grassroots organizations. A lot of our work is with programs serving veterans, rural communities, housing stability, workforce and reentry, and neighborhood revitalization. Eligibility is always confirmed by a staff member reading your application and readiness assessment. Nothing about it is automatic. See Grant Readiness for what funders typically look for.
How much does it cost?
CFGS does not request or display any contribution or payment instructions until your organization's eligibility has been reviewed, you have been accepted, and a participation agreement is complete. How any contribution is classified is set by CFGS Finance under CPA-approved guidance. See our Contribution Policy.
How do I start?
Go to Apply. It is seven questions and takes about two minutes, and your readiness result appears on the page the moment you finish. That result is not an eligibility decision: a staff member reads every submission and follows up to set up a consultation and your portal account. The full application and all document upload happen inside the portal, never on a public page. If you want the background first, read the Grant Readiness overview.
Where do I upload our documents?
Only inside the authenticated client portal, after your account is created. Please don't email confidential documents or financial records. Once you're set up, you can log in to your portal to see your required-document checklist and upload securely.
Do you use AI to prepare our materials?
Yes, in part. We use AI-assisted drafting to help prepare educational materials and to draft sections of grant packages. Every word of it is reviewed by a staff member before it is used, and no technology here decides eligibility or how a payment is classified. See our Technology Use Disclosure.
Is my information secure?
Sensitive information and documents live only inside the protected portal, never on public pages, and secure uploads are handled through authorized, short-lived upload links. See our Privacy Notice and Accessibility Statement.
